For a colleague going on maternity leave

She takes the whole team home on her phone.

Her colleagues record a message for her and the baby, by voice, on video or in writing, and every word goes into a book for her.

Gathering is free. You won't need a card.

How it works

Bring everyone's stories together with one link!

Start the book

Tell us who it's for

Put in her name, then send the link to the team chat and to the people she works with on other teams.

Share one link

Everyone adds their story

Friends and family can capture a memory by voice, video, writing or photos, wherever they are in the world. It's easy on any phone and nobody needs an account!

We put it together

Hear it, read it, hold it

We write out every voice note and gather it all into a podcast you can play and a beautiful book you can hold.

The three questions for maternity leave

  1. What do you want to wish her for the months ahead?
  2. What would you like to tell the baby about their mam?
  3. What's a story from work that'll make her laugh?
What goes in it

She can listen to it on the night feeds!

You can set the book to lead with voice notes, and people can still type or film if they'd rather.

1

Advice from the parents

The parents on the team know what the first weeks are like. Ask them for the one thing that helped them most.

2

Her clients

The clients she looks after can send their good wishes on the same link.

3

A book for when she has time

She can read it once the baby's sleeping through, whenever that turns out to be!

What people say

What people say in a maternity leave message

Tell her something from this week in the office.

"Aoife, it's Sharon. When I had Ellie I lived on toast for six weeks and nobody minded. Eat what you like and don't answer any emails."
SSharona mam of three on the same team
"Aoife, Pearse here. Your handover notes are printed out and stuck to the wall beside my desk. Take every day of the leave and we'll see you next year."

"Hello little one, it's Olive from accounts. Your mam organised the cake for every birthday in this office for five years. We'll have one for you when you come in to visit."
OOlivefrom accounts, to the baby
"Aoife, it's Crónán. You trained me in my first month, and I've kept every email you sent me that week. I'll mind the monthly report till you're back."

When to start

Start five weeks before her last day

That leaves two weeks to collect messages and three for the printed book to reach you. If you're late, the podcast link and the book online are ready the day you order, and the printed copy can follow once the baby's here.

In their words
A Christmas gift
We gave a book of stories about Mam to her for Christmas and she said it was the best gift she had received. There were some stories she had never heard! She felt really surrounded by love.

Questions people ask

What is a good maternity leave gift from the team?

Messages from the whole team, kept in a book the baby can hear when they're older.

What do you write in a maternity leave card for a colleague?

Wish her well for the months at home and tell her one thing the office will miss.

Can colleagues record a message for the baby too?

Yes. One of the questions asks what you'd tell the baby about their mam, and you can change it before you send the link.

Can she share it with her partner?

Yes. She can send the podcast link or the book online to anyone she likes.

Can everyone chip in?

Yes, if you turn chip-in on. Everyone who records can put money towards the book and saves their card. Their cards are charged when you go to pay, and it comes off what you pay. If you don’t finish paying, their money goes back within a week.
