What we keep and why we keep it.

To start a book you give an email address, your name and a password, or sign in with a code we email you. You name the person the book is for and, for a book that grows with a child, their birthday, so each entry can say how old they were. If you order a printed book you give a postal address, which goes to the printer and nowhere else. Payment is taken by Stripe, and your card details never reach us.

Somebody who opens a Chorus link needs no account. They give a first name, how they know the person, a voice recording or a written message, and any photos they choose to add. All of it is stored for the organiser's book and shown to nobody else until the organiser shares it. Nobody hears a recording until the person who made it sends it.

You can ask an assistant to start the book for you. It gives us the name the book is for and your email address, so the book is yours from the moment it exists. Your conversation never reaches us, and neither does anything else the assistant holds. We also keep the address the call came from, so nobody can point a machine at us and open books all day. The connect page describes the connector an assistant uses and what it will never do.

The Chorus app asks for the microphone when you record, the camera or your photos when you add a picture, and notifications only if you choose a weekly or monthly question for a book that grows with a child. Each is asked for the first time you use it, and each can be turned off in the phone's settings.

Supabase hosts the database and the files. An AI transcription service writes out the voices. Resend delivers our emails. Stripe takes payment. Lulu and BookVault print and post the physical book, and receive the book file and the delivery address to do it. Each of them handles your information only to do that job for us.

An AI transcription service outside Chorus listens to each recording and writes down what was said. The words go under the voice and become its page in the book. Nothing is sent to it until the book is paid for.

The Chorus iPhone app asks first, with a tick box above the button that orders the book. Tick it and the voices are written out. Leave it unticked and nothing goes to the service. Every voice still plays, and a voice with no words has no page to read or print. On the website and the Android app, a paid book has its voices written out.

To change your answer, open Account in the iPhone app and tick or untick the box. Words written out before the change stay with their voice. If you use the website or the Android app and want the voices only, email hello@spremtlabs.com and we will set it for you.

PostHog counts visits and the steps people take on the website. It sets no cookies. Advertising pixels from OpenAI, Pinterest and Reddit tell us whether an advert brought anyone, and each of them sets a cookie of its own. OpenAI's pixel is on almost every page of the website. Pinterest's and Reddit's are on the home page, the occasion pages and the thank-you page after an order. The Chorus app in your browser, where books are made and paid for, carries PostHog and the OpenAI and Pinterest pixels. The pages people open from a Chorus link to leave a message or hear the book carry PostHog only. PostHog never gets the link. The Chorus phone app carries none of them.

When you make an account, pay on the site, or send us a message through the chat or the contact form, we keep where you came from: the website that sent you, the tag on the link you followed and the first page you opened. It stays with your account, your order or your message so we can see which posts, ads and searches bring people to Chorus. Before that it travels in the page address from one page to the next, and nothing is stored on your phone or computer to carry it. If you make your account in the Chorus phone app, we keep the link Google Play says you installed it from.

The chat bubble keeps a note called chorus_chat in your browser. It holds the code for your conversation, so you can pick the chat up again on any page. It also remembers that the message above the bubble has shown once, so it doesn't show again.

A book and its recordings stay as long as the organiser's account does, so a keepsake can be built years later. The organiser can remove any single recording, or delete the account and everything in it, from Account in the app. A contributor who wants their own message removed can email us and we will do it.

A book that grows with a child is made by a parent or guardian, in their own account. The child has no account and is never asked for anything. Chorus is for adults to use.
