What we keep, and why.

To start a book you give an email address, your name and a password, or sign in with a code we email you. You name the person the book is for and, for a book that grows with a child, their birthday, so each entry can say how old they were. If you order a printed book you give a postal address, which goes to the printer and nowhere else. Payment is taken by Stripe, and your card details never reach us.

Somebody who opens a Chorus link needs no account. They give a first name, how they know the person, a voice recording or a written message, and any photos they choose to add. All of it is stored for the organiser's book and shown to nobody else until the organiser shares it. Nobody hears a recording until the person who made it sends it.

You can ask an assistant to start the book for you. It gives us the name the book is for and your email address, so the book is yours from the moment it exists. Your conversation never reaches us, and neither does anything else the assistant holds. We also keep the address the call came from, so nobody can point a machine at us and open books all day. What that way in is, and what it will never do, is on the connect page.

The Chorus app asks for the microphone when you record, the camera or your photos when you add a picture, and notifications only if you choose a weekly or monthly question for a book that grows with a child. Each is asked for the first time you use it, and each can be turned off in the phone's settings.

Supabase hosts the database and the files. A transcription provider turns each recording into words, so the book can be read as well as heard. Resend delivers our emails. Stripe takes payment. Lulu and BookVault print and post the physical book, and receive the book file and the delivery address to do it. Each of them handles your information only to do that job for us.

The website uses PostHog to count visits without cookies, and carries advertising pixels from Reddit and OpenAI on its marketing pages so we can tell whether an advert brought anyone. The app itself carries none of these.

A book and its recordings stay as long as the organiser's account does, so a keepsake can be built years later. The organiser can remove any single recording, or delete the account and everything in it, from Account in the app. A contributor who wants their own message removed can email us and we will do it.

You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or take it with you. The free download of every recording is the last of those, built in. A book that grows with a child is made by a parent or guardian, in their own account. The child has no account and is never asked for anything. Chorus is for adults to use.
